King crabs, also popularly called the stone crabs, are very popular with almost all the fancy seafood lovers. Out of the forty different species of stone crabs, the ones most commonly consumed in food include the blue, red, and the golden ones. King crab meat is commonly used for preparing salads, appetizers, salads, soups, and stews. However, the most popular dish is the king crab legs. The most common ways in which it is cooked include steaming, baking, and grilling.
Legs of king crabs can be steamed by completely dipping them in boiling water in a big covered pot. Steam for around 6 minutes and garnish with lemon and butter before it is served hot. Alternatively, they can be baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. However, thawing them in hot water is essential before baking them in the oven. Similarly, the legs can also be grilled over a moderate heat for at least 4 minutes. Using olive oil in this recipe can enhance the flavor to a great extent.
Some tips that must be followed when cooking king crab legs are as follows:
• Proper thawing and heating of the packaged, blast frozen meat before cooking is very essential. Thawing can be done either under running water or in hot water.
• Do not use salt in the recipe as the legs are treated with concentrated brine (salt solution) while getting packaged.
• Thawing may take nearly 8 hours. However, cooking does not take much time, provided the right method and the right ingredients are chosen for cooking.
